Movie Previews?!?

Have you been to the movies lately? Well, if you have, maybe you've noticed an extended amount of movie previews... unless it's just my local theaters, but I don't think so. The last three movies I've been to have shown an average of 7 trailers lasting a total of 18 minutes! This totally drives me crazy. It's like you sit in the theater a half an hour before the movie starts (because you get there 15 minutes early anyway).

And don't even get me started on commercials. The last two years have seen an increase in showing commercials before the previews (I'm talking about the national one's like JCPenny, Sprint, ect. Not the local "Your Ad Here!" ones). What is up with that? It makes the experience seem not so special to me, like I'm at home watching the movie on a really big flat screen, only I can't change the channel.

Hmph.

Is this just me? I know some of you movie buffs out there might love this, if so, I wanna hear from you! Seriously, please explain this to me. Am I just not cool enough to get all excited over these previews? My time's precious folks. I get antsy sitting for 2 hours, add an additional 30 minutes and, eh... I go a little crazy!

I am with you, Stephanie! I'm always joking with my husband that by the time the movie actually starts, I've forgotten what we came to see! :)

I like good movie previews (like Avatar), but, yeah, combined w/ commercials, it can become tedious.

Shannon - I know!!! Plus, I'm already sick of eating the popcorn before the movie even starts. I try to hold off, but it's just. too. hard.

Bane - I kept thinking about Avatar when I was writing this post. I've seen two different previews for it. Personally, I like the one that's just music with limited dialogue. The movie looks good!

I really don't like the commercials, but I don't mind the previews. I rarely go to the movies and I only watch an hour of TV a week (yay The Office & 30 Rock) so I don't see previews otherwise.

Don't worry, Steph - it's admirable that you could even make an EFFORT to hold off on the popcorn. I think it would require superhero powers to pull that one off!!

Steph - I guess it's not the previews themselves, it's just that there's so MANY of them. Three or four is enough!

Shannon - I try. I try.

OMG, Steph! This is sacrilege. Don't get me wrong - I'm with you on the commercials. Coke, Sprint, etc., have no business on a movie screen - in fact, they irritate the hell outta me. But previews?! Half the fun of going to the theater is to see the awesome previews - like AVATAR, which gives me chills every time I see it. And the more previews, the happier I am.

On the other hand, at the ripe ol' age of 33, I'm sometimes overwhelmed by the sheer number... like Shannon, I almost forget what it is I came to see. :-)

P.S. In my little podunk theater in northern Michigan, however, we're lucky if we see one preview at all. Boo-hiss. :-(

This is a sore spot for me. I HATE HATE HATE IT.... In fact, I hate it so much, I don't go to the theaters anymore. I just wait to watch it on DVD. The commercial thing is out of hand. I think you said it best, it makes the experience less special.
