I'm Quirky

Being a writer comes with certain personality traits. I think quirkiness is one of them.

Like I said before, I have to write to silence. But not dead silence. I guess a better word would be white noise -- preferably the washing machine or dryer. I also like to be warm. A Snuggie would be perfect, but alas, I don't own one.

Which is why I guess it should come as no surprise that I usually write while sitting on top of my dryer. Yeppers, the dryer. It provides the noise that I need and the warmth that I desire. Ahhhh... isn't that nice. Granted, it's not the most comfortable, but I seem to focus well up there. I have some more quirks, but I guess I'll stick with that for now...

So, what about you? What are your writing quirks?

Wow. That's a new one. Never would've occurred to me to sit on an appliance. I have to be comfortable when I write, more than anything. I usually end up in my feather bed. And you should definitely invest in a Snuggie! They are wonderful!

My quirks... that might take a whole blog post... I'm glad you thought of it!

Ha, your welcome Tara. Yeah, the dryer's not the most comfortable, but that's okay. I can't write in bed. I get to comfy and then nightie night I go.

Hehehe... That's a great idea! Reminds me of kids who sleep on the dryer in their carseat when they're really little.

I'm a little more conventional- I type at my desk on a giant blue bouncy ball. I'm redoing the library (I call it that because all my books are there) soon- I'm painting the walls a gorgeous shade of green!

Steph - Bouncy balls are awesome for working your core! Oh, and writing. Good idea. I have a giant red one...

And green? My favorite color. The wall behind my profile picture is actually my living room. My kitchen and living room are one big room and both are painted the same soothing shade. I love it.

I love it! I'm pretty big on white noise, too - I always have a loud fan going when I take a nap! :)

The dryer sounds perfect. Warmth, soothing vibrations, and white noise - what could be better? (unless of course we add a latte and some chocolate) :)

Haha... that's great!

Me, I do a lot of my writing in between tasks at work. When I get a free moment, I tab over to WORD and jot down some stuff. Since it's work, I don't get a lot done at any given time, just a little here and there.

I find when I'm home, I can't write... there's too many other things to distract me.

My son used to do his homework down in the basement, right on the dryer as it was going...He found he could concentrate better there. Maybe I should try writing there!

Shannon - I actually had a gingerbread latte today while writing. It was divine.

Void - I wrote my first novel while at work. Um, maybe that's why I don't work there anymore :)

Matilda - I know it helps me concentrate. It's my new favorite writing spot. It's where I'm writing from right now!

Either totally quiet or one of two CD's need to be playing to mask out anything else. I also read a chapter or two before I start writing.

Wow Jen, you can read your work before writing? I have a hard time doing that because then I get started editing and can't stop.
