Poll Time!

I'm working on a new novel. Yes, another new novel and no, this one is not a sequel. Every time I start a new work I get all giddy with excitement and I figured I wasn't the only one. So, you tell me - what do you love most about writing a new novel?

Plot is what I dream/stress/worry about, though perhaps it should be voice.

Bane, plot is what drives me. I obsess about it until I figure out every detail. Voice is just as important. If you have a great plot, but the voice stinks, well then so does your story. The two definitely go hand in hand.

I'm the only one, so far, to have answered "exploring your setting" - maybe that should tell me something about how I go about writing a novel.

Perhaps I should be focused on those pesky little things like plot, character, and voice. Hmmm...

Laura, I love exploring my settings too. I have a hard time writing about a place that I've never visited before, which is why I tend to stick to the geographic regions I'm familiar with. But for me, my setting is almost secondary to the characters and plot. Stories come to me based on characters and then I have to figure the rest out.
